Works from 2003
I paint in a loose, calligraphic style of expressionistic abstraction, in layers of delicate, brash and meticulously rendered color. I tend to work the entire surface in waves, one color at a time. Each layer adds to the last, some layers skirting representation, like patterns or ephemeral objects one sees in clouds or in shadows shifting on a stucco wall. Order and chaos are interchangeable terms in my work. Chaos describes the underlying system, the order of things. I rely a lot on accidents and intuition, the physical memory acquired through years of training and the careful tweaking of my mistakes.
