To me, abstraction and realism rely on one another. They coexist, overlap, make the other possible. I don't see their relationship as a duality. Reality is informed and described by abstraction. Abstract processes and images coalesce into what we describe as real or realistic. Reality represents the big picture and abstraction is all the details that make up the whole. Some argue that every thing we perceive is a construct. That in perceiving, we define what is real.

Though my work covers a wide territory in terms of media and concepts, I am a painter at heart. As a painter, I draw on my experience working with landscapes and the human figure. Observations and memories act as seed crystals for the imagery and conceptual elements. Abstraction, formal and conceptual, is always a core element of the work.
