My brother Peter and I were having a conversation about why we live where we do. He lives in New Mexico and I live in Massachusetts. One of his first comments was that he hated dirty snow. His statement struck at something true. I felt challenged to find beauty and mystery in the dreaded, polluted slush. The exercise brought me to a meditative state where my expectations were turned on their side. I found beauty but also witnessed the graphic evidence of the impact of automobile related pollution on our local watershed.
