White-Ellery Illuminated
This place has a profound presence.
300 years of history and life as much revealed
in what is missing as what was made;
exposed in the layers of marks painted lovingly as decorations amidst accidental destructions and omissions laid as the inhabitants altered the place and moved it.
Visually, the closer you look, the greater the reward. These photographs are intended to set up a visual interplay. Some are visible, some structural, some hidden.
I want to thank Susan Erony, Jay Jaroslav and Lara Lepionka for their support and feedback, Double Exposure Photography for the wonderful old 4x5 camera, Charlie Olson for his eye for the structure and hands during installation. Thanks also to the Cape Ann Museum for granting me access to the house and for this show.
