Oysters and Reefs
These images are intended to highlight the diversity of forms that naturally occur in oysters and other invertebrate organisms found in the inter-tidal zone of my home town of Gloucester.
The photographs are made using a 1970's vintage orthographic film stock which imparts some unique qualities to the images. Ortho film doesn't see the color red. This makes it easy to work with in the darkroom and causes dramatic shifts in tone.
The reefs are improvisations based on my experiences diving and snorkeling off Cape Ann. The creatures and forms are not necessarily real, but are certainly inspired by real and remembered things.
